My research agenda centers on understanding and addressing health disparities among LGBTQ+ populations, with a focus on transgender and gender-diverse communities in global context.
Research Areas
- LGBTQ+ health and wellbeing
- Gender minority stress and resilience
- Family dynamics and social support
- HIV prevention and sexual health
- Social determinants of health
Current Work
My dissertation focuses on the validation of measures of family gender environment and the identification of family environment patterns among Chinese transgender and gender-diverse individuals. Using cognitive interviews and online survey, I examine how different family profiles are associated with access to gender-affirming care and mental health outcomes.
Broader Research Contributions
My prior and ongoing work spans interdisciplinary and international collaborations, including:
- Campus climate and health behaviors among transgender and non-binary college students.
- HIV prevention and digital health interventions among sexual minority populations in China, including PrEP uptake and HIV self-testing.
- Community-engaged and crowdsourcing approaches to improve health service delivery.
- Studies on mental health, healthcare access, and sexual health among LGBTQ+ populations.
- Research on older adults, financial vulnerability, and health outcomes.
Methodological Approach
I use mixed methods, including:
- Survey design and psychometric validation
- Quantitative modeling (e.g., regression, latent profile analysis)
- Qualitative interviews and community-engaged research
Across projects, I prioritize approaches that center community voices and translate findings into practical interventions.
